Indie Ale House, Toronto

Indie Ale House Bar with Pull L_DThe Indie Ale House is in the heart of The Junction where Dundas Street West is home to several terrific food stops including Honest Weight and Farmhouse Tavern.  The tagline is “Not Your Average Pub Grub” with the qualifier “We never do anything halfway.”  Yep!   And Toronto is beginning to understand what a treasure this place is…it’s not unusual to see media and food people sitting at the bar or just kicking back. Indie Ale House Cheese Board

Try the BBQ mahogany ribs or any of the pizzas – their smoked salmon rendition has caramelized onions, fior di latte and Yukon Gold potatoes. Quinoa and chickpeas are tossed with dried cranberries, feta cheese and apples. The cheese board is exceptional. The burgers on the menu are built to go with the beers. But “The Reason We’re Here” though is the beer.

Indie Ale House Ribs“We’ve never been satisfied with the lack of true, full-bodied beers available to us and to you. So we’ve coupled our love and passion for beer, with a knowledge and respect for the craft, to concoct a selection of ales that can excite any palate.”

There’s no question that Brew-master Jeff Broeders, a graduate of the Niagara College Brewing programme, emphasizes  the more adventurous and creative beers,  rarely brewing to classic style guidelines and preferring instead to go off the path and create something new beginning with their flagship brands, Barnyard, Instigator, Breakfast Porter and Broken Hipster before turning his attention to an ever changing array of experimental potions and one hit wonders.
