Lifetime Achievement AND Best Vancouver Island Restaurant

Food Day congratulates Sinclair and Frederique Philip and their incredible culinary/garden team at Sooke Harbour House for their recent Lifetime Achievement Award by Vancouver Magazine.  “Long before the 100-Mile Diet, before Bishop’s and Ocean Wise and the word locavore, there was Sooke Harbour House”  reads the citation.

“When we opened 31 years ago,” writes Sinclair Philip, “we simply thought, with such an abundance of high quality regional ingredients, why would we need to bring in foods from anywhere else? We weren’t trying to start a trend, it was just common sense, and also the way we used to eat when we lived in rural France.”

This brilliant inn perched on the ocean’s edge held a dinner 20 or so years ago entitled “The tide is out; the table is set.”   They have always been ahead of proverbial curve and have mentored countless top chefs who’ve spread out across the nation.

That same evening, Sooke Harbour House was also awarded GOLD as the top restaurant on Vancouver Island!
